Crowns & Bridges

Crowns (or caps) are often used to protect a weak tooth, restore a fractured or cracked tooth, to cover a discoloured tooth, in cosmetic dentistry or protect a tooth that has had a root canal. Crowns are made to fit with your surrounding teeth.

A bridge is a false tooth used to fill a gap where a natural tooth no longer exists.
The bridge is fixed to the natural teeth on either side of the empty space using crowns.

Fillings

Fillings are used to restore tooth structure loss, usually resulting from but not limited to dental cavities.

One of the best ways to protect a child’s teeth from tooth decay is with dental sealants

Sealants

Dental sealants protect the teeth through the cavity-prone years, ages six to 14, when back teeth are first susceptible to decay. Sealants provide extra protection on childrens teeth until they learn how to do a better job of brushing and flossing.

Sealants act as barriers, protecting the teeth against decay-causing bacteria. The sealants are usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars) where decay occurs most often.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last of the permanent teeth to develop during the late teens. Because they are the last teeth to develop, they can be left without space to grow and may become impacted. Wisdom teeth may grow sideways, emerge only part way from the gum or remain trapped beneath the gum and bone. This can lead to infection under the gum flap (pericoronitis) or decay in the crown of the wisdom tooth itself or in the crown of the tooth in front of the wisdom tooth.

Veneers

Veneers may be used cosmetically to resurface teeth, to make them appear straighter and possess a more aesthetically pleasing alignment. This may be a quick way to improve the appearance of malposed teeth without using orthodontics.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening is a common procedure in general dentistry but most especially in the field of cosmetic dentistry. Many people consider white teeth to be an attractive feature of a smile. A child’s deciduous teeth are generally whiter than the adult teeth that follow. As a person ages the adult teeth often become darker. This darkening is due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth, as the enamel becomes less porous. Teeth can also become stained by bacterial pigments, foodstuffs and tobacco.

Root Canal Treatment

If your tooth has decay that has reached closed to the nerve, and therefore is unable to remain vital, as an option to tooth extraction / removing the tooth, the dentist may suggest Root Canal Treatment (RCT).  This procedure removes the nerve from the tooth, and allows you to retain the tooth  – which will maintain your smile, and allow you to continue to eat and chew as you have done in the past, and perhaps avoid dentures in later life.

Hi. I need to replace a crown over a post. I have had the crown about 25 years and the original tooth at the base of the crown is starting to break down.
Is this a normal crown replacement or does it require extra work?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have to have my wisdom teeth removed and was wondering what this entails and what costs are involved. I currently have braces and my orthodontist has advised me that they are impacting on the teeth beside them (also none of them have broken through yet),

Thanks, any information would be helpful.

    Hi,
My name is Kevin Howe. I am a patient of yours

I came in on 20 Dec to the Manly surgery and was prepped for two crowns on my two upper front teeth. A temporary was fitted to last until my crowns were ready for fitting on Feb 28.

The temporaries (one temp joined instead of two separate, for strength) have come off. I was eating a piece of bread when they came off.

I am in Phnom Penh, Cambodia at the present. There is no pain.

What should I do? Go to a dentist over here and get a filling placed over the teeth, or do nothing (there is no pain, but it looks pretty ordinary).

I return to Australia early on 11 Jan at the Gold Coast. Can I come in that day in the afternoon (to either surgery) and get a new temporary inserted? I am from the Sunshine Coast, so it is difficult for me to get to your surgeries.

    Please reply to me ASAP?

    Thanks,
    Kevin Howe
